Elliot's story
Dear All,
As a young boy I threw myself, heart and soul, into sport and realised that sport teaches you a lot about yourself and about life. It’s not just about how good you can be at the sport in question, its about discovering how you can behave in life and what lessons you can take from the sports arena to the arena of life. It’s about discovering if you have the inner determination to succeed and it’s about learning how to behave not only when you loose but how to handle yourself in a gracious manner when you win. It’s probably the greatest way you can learn what sort of human being you are and what you could become.
So I decided that having learnt a few lessons about myself, about life and about sport I would use them to help others get more out of themselves.
I set up Sportyard in 2000 with two clients, Sophie Gustafson and Henrik Stenson, and you can read more about the history under that heading.
I wanted Sportyard to be different as I had observed how many of the sports management companies behaved towards their clients during my years at university in the USA and later on, as a professional golfer. These observations were further endorsed through working for six months for a sports management company after withdrawing from playing professional golf.
So many of the sports management companies start their relationships with their clients telling them what they are going to do for them. We don’t, we start by talking to a prospective client to learn about them, to discover what makes them tick to see if they have that inner drive to succeed and what they want out of life. And if we all think the chemistry between us is good then we start to work out how we can help them discover their full potential.
I guess you could call us the ‘human’ alternative to the many corporate management companies out there. But being human is not the only attribute we offer. This and the way in which we operate is what, we believe, makes us different.
So read on and if you would like to know more about our story we would love to hear from you.
Yours,
Johan Elliot
