Started golf in 1982 playing with friends as the family bought a summer house near a golf course. It was a great time as a young golfer in Sweden. Courses were half empty and there were lots of kids spending all day at the club. It was at that time that his incredible will and commitment surfaced - and still remains today. This accelerated his golf development and soon he was snapped up by Sweden’s very good youth programme and rapidly rose through national teams at boys, youth and amateur level, enjoying success at every step. This culminated as part of the Swedish team in the Eisenhower Trophy and fifth place..
The years in the Swedish national teams provided a great preparation for a professional career and he soon became a three-time winner on the Challenge Tour in 1993. He nearly became the first player to win The European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage twice, having claimed top honours in 1996 and then finishing second in 1999. Got his first win on the European Tour at the Madeira Island Open in 2000. A year later he finished runner-up to David Duval in The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes and went on to make his Ryder Cup debut in 2002 at The Belfry where he was denied the chance of holing the winning putt by Paul Azinger’s audacious chip in from the bunker at the 18th in their singles tie. Won twice in both 2005 and 2006 – three of those via a play-off. 2007 saw a win at the BMW International Open in Munich, which, along with nine other top tens in 23 appearances, lifted him to fifth on the Order of Merit. Among those top tens was fourth place in the 2007 US Open Championship, the highest finish by a European, further underlining his reputation as a player for the big occasion. Recorded a further eight top ten finishes between 2008 & 2010.
